Burrel School Celebrates 120th Birthday July 4

by Laura Ness - @hervineness on July 1, 2010

Look past the freshly painted gate of Burrell School to see both the large US flag from 1926 and the Hawaiian State Flag waving in the breeze above the red schoolhouse. Burrell School was dedicated on July 4th, 1890 with a community event raising the first flag. Over 100 guests were in attendance to see the original flag raised by Miss Minnie Morrell. This Fourth of July marks number 120 for Burrell School! Come salute the flag and sip some great summer wines, including the “Firecracker Four Pack,” with Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir and Syrah for just $89: regular price $160.

From the past to the future we go! Sippers Club members get to sample and purchase four great wines during Futures Month. There are only 40 cases of each wine available: Limit 2 cases of each wine per Club member, which means you’d best get your orders in quickly! Library Reserve Club Members get first dibs, July 3rd, 4th and 5th. (BTW: there are just a few LRC slots open if you want to get in on the priority action.) The other weekends in July are for ALL club members while they last!

Did somebody say gourmet food and Pinot Noir?

by WineGlutton on March 30, 2010

Did somebody say gourmet food and Pinot Noir? Count me in. Last Sunday proved to be just another reason why living in the Santa Cruz Mountains is so awesome as the annual event Pinot in Paradise took place.
Hundreds of dedicated Pinot lovers attended the sold out event last weekend to pay homage to their favorite wine, and the winemakers made sure they wouldn’t go home disappointed.  Visitors were first greeted at the door and given full sized, Pinot Noir style glasses as the vessel for tasting some of the best wines in the world. When first walking into the room, one can’t help but to ask the question, “Where do I start?” But with each winery in alphabetical order, it was easy to navigate from some old favorites, to new wineries that normally have their doors closed to the public.
Of course, it was easy to be distracted by the abundance of gourmet snacks. Succulent pork belly sliders, stinky duck pate, and tangy Parmesan dipped in honey kept my palate alive and happy as I journeyed through paradise.
A highlight of the day was the opportunity to sample two different vintages of fine Pinot from Kings Mountain Winery. As usual, Heart o’ [...]
