Petite Sirah Symposium At Concannon Features Aver, Occasio

by Laura Ness - HerVineNess on July 26, 2010

concanonbottleconcannongateTomorrow, July 27th, Concannon Winery once again hosts the annual PS I Love You Petite Sirah Symposium in Livermore. This year’s event is SOLD OUT, but you can tune in to the festivities by signing up for the live feed. at www.psiloveyou.org/live

Last year, there were excellent examples of Petite from all over, including from Spangler in Oregon. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of trying new releases from Parducci (go Bob Swain! he’s speaking tomorrow, way cool), Mounts Family, Cupcake, Artezin, Mitchel Katz, Vina Robles, Poetic Cellars, Crooked Vine, Bodegas Aguirre, Stanton and Line 39. What a panoply of tastefully made Pets! But oh, the 2008 Occasio from Del Arroyo Vineyard in the Livermore Valley.! My goodness, this is sensational stuff, already taking Double Gold at the National Women’s Wine Competition and Gold at the 2010 State Fair. A recent tasting of the 2008 Aver Family Petite from Santa Clara Valley revealed a massive, stretch Hummer of a wine that is going to be a powerhouse, a force to be reckoned with. Can’t wait to see what a few more months in the bottle will do to tame it.

Eagerly awaiting this year’s lineup of black-purple hearted beauties that defy toothpaste and leave your tongue as purple as a grape fizzy.. I’ll be reporting back on the results tomorrow and thereafter!
