Gary Vaynerchuk was speaking at the Winefuture conference in Roja, and he said Wine producers are “sticking their heads in the sand” and “lazy” leaving retailers to talk to their consumers rather than doing it themselves.
What wine producers haven’t figured out yet is that it is all about consumers and good customer service. Gary says, ‘I don’t give a crap about Facebook or Twitter, I care about consumers’ and ‘You should be embarrassed if you don’t recognize that these tools allow you to talk to them.
In the era of social media, this is the way consumers want to interact with you and if you don’t take advantage of them then you are missing out. Missing out not only on new customers but also missing out on the interesting wine people and wine conversations that are happening out there in the social world.
There’s a huge wine community out there on twitter. At any given moment you can quickly see what wine fans are saying, what they are doing and most importantly what they are drinking.
You can keep your head in the sand or you can realize ‘it’s all about consumers’.
