It’s been a fast and furious harvest for Poetics Cellars. Winemaker, winegrower, and woman of all trades, Katy Lovell, says, “I have harvested Cab. Sauv., Cab. Franc, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Mourvedre, Sangiovese, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Barbera and Carignane. The fruit looks beautiful this year. The Livermore vineyards were cropped lighter this year which is great.”
Katy took advantage of some lovely old vine Zin and Carignane up near Ukiah recently acquired by a developer. Will the vineyard be there next year? In this climate, who knows? It just feels good to have been there at the right time, and the wine will no doubt be appropriately distinctive. We can’t wait!!
She plans to harvest the Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay from Chestnut Hill Vineyard off Summit Road this coming Friday. Having already picked the Regan Vineyard Pinot, this represents the last of the 09 fruit coming in. All in all, an intense, concentrated, and hopefully fabulous harvest.
